Green phosphorescence and electroluminescence of sulfur pentafluoride-functionalized cationic iridium(III) complexes

EZ-C acknowledges the University of St Andrews for financial support. We report four cationic iridium(III) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(dtBubpy)](PF6) that have sulfurpentafluoride-modified 1-phenylpyrazole and 2-phenylpyridine cyclometalating (C^N) ligands (dtBubpy = 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridyl). Three of the complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. In cyclic voltammetry, the complexes undergo reversible oxidation of iridium(III) and irreversible reduction of the SF5 group. They emit bright green phosphorescence in acetonitrile solution and in thin films at room temperature, with emission maxima between 482–519 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 7…

Effect of Packing on Cluster Solvation of Nanotubes

It is discussed the possibility of the existence of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in organic solvents in the form of clusters, containing a number of SWNTs. A theory is developed based on a bundlet model for clusters, which enables describing the distribution function of clusters by size. Comparison of the calculated values of solubility with experimental data would permit obtaining energetic parameters characterizing the interaction of an SWNT with its surrounding, in a solid phase or solution. Plasma Functionalization of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes and Their Use in the Preparation of Nylon 6-Based Nanohybrids

The possibility to obtain carbon nanotubes (CNT)/polyamide 6 composites with excellent mechanical properties in a simple, industrially scalable way is investigated. Commercial CNTs are treated by plasma while changing some key parameters (exposure time, plasma power, type of gas) in order to optimize the process and to achieve a sufficient degree of functionalization. The treated samples are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. New hyaluronic acid based brush copolymers synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization.

Abstract In this work, an efficient method for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid based brush copolymers using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has been reported. At first, two different hyaluronic acid (HA) based macroinitiators have been prepared and then they have been used for the polymerization via ATRP of hydrophilic or hydrophobic molecules carrying vinyl portions. Synthesis and characterization of new polyamino-cyclodextrin materials.

With the aim of the synthesis of chemically modified cyclodextrins bearing polyamine pendant groups, potentially useful as capping agents for the preparation of nanosized metal systems or as auxiliaries for gene transfection, the reaction between the heptakis-(6-iodo)-(6-deoxy)-b-cyclodextrin and various polyamines has been explored. Determination of sugars in depilatory formulations: a green analytical method employing infrared detection and partial least squares regression.

A green analytical method was developed for the analysis of sugar-based depilatories. Three independent partial least squares (PLS) regression models were built for the direct determination of glucose, fructose and maltose without any sample pretreatment based on their attenuated total reflectance - Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectra. The models showed adequate prediction capabilities with root-mean-square-errors of prediction ranging from 7.04 to 12.55 mg sugar g(-1) sample.
